Selecting the correct type of advertising and promotional tools for your business can be a tricky but also crucial task. When deciding on the type of signage you’ll use for your promotional event or advertising campaign, you always want to choose based on function, durability and of course ease of customization.

As you look around at the different kinds of banners that are out there, you’ll begin to ask yourself whether you should go with a mesh banner or vinyl banner. These two banners would be up there with being the most popular and after reading the facts hopefully, you get a better idea of what the right decision for your company may be.

Mesh Banners:

As the name suggests, mesh banners are made of weaved/interlaced fabric that is breathable due to the tiny holes it has that allow air to pass through. This style of the banner is ideal for outdoor locations, even when the weather is windy it won't tear as easily due to the air being able to pass through it. The crisscrossed pattern may give the mesh banner a slightly transparent appearance, but this doesn’t stop it from being easily customized with a variety of colours to display your brand or message. Pros:

  • Airflow friendly design
  • Highly durable
  • Reduced weight (ease of transport and installation)
  • Tear-resistant

Cons:

  • Printing can be more expensive on mesh vs. vinyl banner
  • Images, colours and graphics aren’t as bright
  • Can only print on one side

Vinyl Banners:

Vinyl banners are made out of scrim polyester combined with vinyl, they offer a variety of size and full-colour options. The choice is up to you on whether you want to print on one or both sides of the banner, either way, it will be extremely eye-catching. Vinyl banners are easily one of the most versatile versus the competition and can be installed for both indoor and outdoor applications in all shapes and sizes. Like the mesh banners, the vinyl ones too will come with eyelets for ease of installation. View our recent Vinyl Banner Project with Ascot Project Management here.

Pros

  • Printing is less costly and less time consuming
  • Gloss or Matte finish options
  • Double-sided printing is possible
  • Superb ink finish.
  • Cons:
  • More prone to being torn or damaged (especially in windy conditions)
  • Can easily wrinkle if not handled correctly.

The Verdict:

The battle of the mesh banner vs vinyl banner has now come to a close and as you can see the choice really comes down to the particular needs and overall purpose of the banner for your business. Mesh banners are the superior choice when it comes to extensive outdoor usage due to their greater durability. Conversely, Vinyl banners offer the more superior colour palette and eye-catching vibrance making them more ideal for short term use. Both banners can handle indoor duty equally as well, just comes down to your company's preference and which visually appeals to you best.
