Banners are a great advertising tool. Whether you're using them as part of a stall display, an outdoor advertising campaign, an event or even a screen for development projects, they can be your most reliable ally in increasing brand exposure and generating revenue.
While aesthetics and text are crucial to the design of your banner, it's the installation that might be the most significant factor in the whole process. It's all well and good having an impactful, memorable, evocative and witty banner, but if no one can read it and it flies away after two hours it won't have done you much good!
Hanging your banner properly is the best way to maximise its visual impact as well as prolong its lifespan, ensuring it remains displayed, attractive and legible for as long as possible. Here are a few things to keep in mind when you're considering how to hang your banner!
Grommets and pole pockets are two distinct design features which are a great help in displaying your banner. You can ask for either to be added to yours after it's printed!
Grommets are metal rings inserted at each corner and along the edges of your banner. They make hanging your banner easier and increase the durability of the installation: if you simply punched a hole through the fabric, it would quickly tear and deform the sign.
Pole pockets are an extra seam along the edges of your banner, created by folding the fabric over itself and hemming it. They allow you to slide posts, poles and misbehaving clients through them so that you can pull the sign taut and display it securely.
Methods for installing your banner will differ depending on whether it has grommets, pole pockets, or neither. Choosing the right one can make the difference between a star display and a poor show!
Note: for more permanent solutions.
Armed with a drill, screws and washers, you can ensure your banner sits flush against the wall for maximum impact and effect. Start by drilling holes in the wall, then passing screws through the washers and the grommets to secure the sign in place.
When displaying your grommeted banner on a fence, posts or poles, or hanging it from the awning, using bungee ties or carabiners is a great way to install it securely while making sure it remains easily removable. The flexibility of bungee ties also means the grommets are less likely to be torn out during extreme weather.
Posts buried firmly in the ground can be slid through the pole pockets to provide secure and durable support for your banner. Otherwise, you can push your banner over a flagpole.
If your banner doesn't have either of the aforementioned design features, don't despair! There are still ways to hang it securely and beautifully where you need it to be.
Using velcro is a great way to attach your banner to a flat surface, and it'll ensure your sign sits flush against the wall.
If you have a metal surface, strong magnets are one of the best ways to temporarily secure your banner in place.
